The Minnesota Timberwolves are in 1st place in the Western Conference this year. Fueled by rising star Anthony Edwards, and shooting big man Karl Anthony-Towns, the Timberwolves have been playing like one of the best teams in the NBA. When looking at the Timberwolves stats, you quickly notice something. The Timberwolves are nothing special on offense. Even with KAT and Edwards both averaging over 20 points per game, the Timberwolves rank 20th in points per game. The box score shows that the Wolves defense is winning them games. The Wolves are first in the league in points allowed per game at 107.5, averaging 6.1 blocks per game which is 6th best in the league.The Wolves top defense helps them win games and nothing shows this more than their point differential. Their +5.5 is 5th best in the league. Their ability to play defense more than makes up for their lack of offensive production. In a league where some say defense wins championships, time will tell if the Timberwolves defense will keep them top of the west come playoff time.
